Art

Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artefacts (artworks), expressing the author's imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power.

In their most general form, these activities include the production of works of art, the criticism of art, the study of the history of art, and the aesthetic dissemination of art. The oldest documented forms of art are visual arts, which include the creation of images or objects in fields including today painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and other visual media.

About Art

Art is a subject taught across the UK curriculum and is built in the curriculum for students from starting school at 4/5 years of age, through to sitting national assessment exams at 16, GCSE’s in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and National 5 in Scotland, these are two year courses with exams sat at the end to grade the students.

Once students have their GCSE’s or National 5 exams, they can choose to continue Art at a more advanced level with A-Levels in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and Highers/Advanced Highers in Scotland.  These are studied over 2 years (A level) or one year (Highers/Advanced Highers)

Art can also form a core part of the International Baccalaureate at Higher Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL).

It can also be a course studied at University. With the Top 5 universities in the UK being Oxford, Newcastle, Loughborough,  University College London and Lancaster.

 

Why study Art?


Art is also a powerful tool with many applications as it covers so many aspects such as Art History, restoration, studying different artists and their styles. Drama training can lead to many career opportunities, including:-

  • Exhibition designer
  • Fine artist
  • Illustrator
  • Museum/gallery curator
  • Printmaker
  • Secondary school teacher

And most Art graduates after one year are:-

  • Unemployed- 5.2%
  • Further Study- 11.7%
  • Employed- 69.1%
  • Working while studying- 5.%
  • Other- 7.2%
